Why I Love These Little Crisps
I remember the first time I made these. I was looking for something sweet that wouldn’t wreck my tummy. My grandkids were coming over, and they always want a snack the second they walk in. I had one apple and a sprinkle of cinnamon. That was it. I still laugh at how simple it was. Doesn’t that sound like a miracle? You can find more simple snack ideas at Spoons Way.
These apple crisps are just two things: an apple and cinnamon. But they taste like a warm hug from the kitchen. They are crunchy, sweet, and healthy all at once. My grandson said they taste like candy. That made me smile. Have you ever tried making fruit chips at home?
The Trick to Getting Them Crispy
Here is the real secret. You have to slice the apple very thin. I use a mandoline slicer because it makes perfect slices every time. Each slice should be about as thick as a coin. If they are too thick, they stay soft. Too thin, and they burn before you blink. You want them just right, like a little golden circle. You also need to remove the little seeds in the middle. I use a small piping nozzle to punch out the center. It makes a neat little hole. My granddaughter thought that was the funniest part. She said the apples look like tiny donuts. That little hole helps them cook evenly. Have you ever used a tool like that in your kitchen?
A Little Story About My First Batch
The first time I made these, I walked away for just one minute. Big mistake. The whole kitchen filled with smoke, and my apple slices looked like little black coal chips. My dog started barking at the air fryer. I felt so silly. But I learned my lesson. You have to watch them like a hawk. They go from perfect to burnt in about ten seconds. This is why checking often matters so much. You can find more irresistible sweet treats that are just as fun.
Why this matters: When you learn from a little mistake, you get better. Now I set a timer and stand right there. I peek in the window every minute. It makes me feel like a scientist watching a small experiment. And the reward is always worth it.
The Flavors That Make You Smile
You only have one apple and some cinnamon. But the flavor is big. The cinnamon gets warm and toasty in the hot air. It smells like autumn and holidays all at once. My kitchen fills with this sweet, spicy scent that makes everyone wander in. My husband always asks, “What are you baking?” and I laugh and say, “Just an apple!” Doesn’t that smell amazing? You can eat them plain, or dip them in peanut butter. I like the peanut butter best. It adds a creamy, salty taste that makes the sweet apple sing. My little niece dips them in yogurt. There is no wrong way to enjoy them.
Why This Snack Is So Good for You
This little snack has only 99 calories for a whole apple. That is less than a small candy bar. It has 5 grams of fiber, which helps your belly feel happy. Fiber keeps you full longer and helps you digest food. Why this matters: Eating a snack like this gives you energy without making you feel sleepy later. It is real food that does real good. For more ideas like this, look at appetizer recipes.
Plus, apples have vitamin C. That helps keep your immune system strong. So when you eat these crisps, you are giving your body a little shield. My grandkids eat them after school instead of chips. They don’t even miss the junk food. Do you have a favorite healthy snack you make for your family?
Fun Fact Time
Fun fact: Apples float in water because they are 25% air. That is why they bob up and down when you wash them in a bowl. It also means they dry out fast in the air fryer, which makes them crisp quicker. Cool, right? You can also serve these crisps alongside perfect sides for a full meal.
Here is a little poll for you: Do you prefer your apple crisps plain, or dipped in something sweet? I love hearing what you try at home. You can also share your favorite apple variety for this recipe. I use Honeycrisp because it is naturally sweet and firm. What apple do you like best?
How to Store Them So They Stay Crunchy
Once you make these, you might want to save some for later. I put mine in a glass mason jar with a tight lid. They stay crispy for about three days. Do not put them in the fridge, or they will get soft and sad. The pantry is the perfect spot. Just keep them away from steam and heat. If they do get a little soft, you can pop them back in the air fryer for two minutes. They crisp right up again. That is the magic of these little circles. They forgive you if you forget. Now tell me, have you ever made something so simple that surprised you? I would love to hear your story.
Instructions
Step 1: Grab a crisp apple like Fuji or Honeycrisp. Using a sharp knife or mandoline, slice it thin, about 1/8-inch thick. I always steady the apple with my hand and slice from the bottom up. (A steady hand keeps you from getting nicked, trust me on this one.)
Step 2: Cut out the little seed pockets in each slice. I use a piping nozzle tip, but a small bottle cap works too. My grandkids call this making apple doughnuts, and I still laugh at that. What funny name would you give these circles? Share below!
Step 3: Toss the apple rings in a bowl with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Use your hands to gently rub the spice all over every slice. Doesn’t that smell amazing? The sweet, warm scent fills the whole kitchen in seconds.
Step 4: Lay the slices in your air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not let them overlap or they will stay soft. Place a light pie weight on top so the slices don’t fly around as they dry.
Step 5: Air fry at 375°F for 3 minutes, then flip them. Cook for 5-6 more minutes but watch closely. They turn from golden to burnt in a blink, so peek often. Let them cool on a rack to get perfectly crisp.

Why Storing Your Apple Crisps Right Matters
I remember the first time I made these apple crisps. I left them out on the counter. By morning, they were soft and sad. That taught me a big lesson. Storing them the right way keeps them crunchy and tasty. That is why it matters. You want that perfect snap when you bite into one.
Batch cooking is a lifesaver. Make a few apples at once. Then store them in a glass mason jar, just like we talked about. Keep the jar in your pantry, not the fridge. The fridge adds moisture and makes them soft. A cool, dry place is best. That way, you have a healthy snack ready for days.
Reheating is simple. If they lose their crunch, pop them back in the air fryer. Use the same temperature for just two minutes. They will crisp right up again. Have you ever tried storing it this way? Share below!
Three Common Problems and Easy Fixes
One big problem is soggy chips. This happens if you do not slice thin enough. Use a mandoline slicer for even, thin slices. Or a sharp knife if you are careful. Thin slices dry out fast and get crispy. That is why this matters for good texture.
Another issue is burning. I once burned a whole batch because I walked away. The air fryer is fast. Check often, especially near the end. At 375 degrees, three minutes can make a difference. Pull them out when they are golden brown. They keep cooking as they cool.
The third problem is flying slices. As they dry, they get light and fly around. They can hit the heating element. I remember watching one fly right into the fan. Use pie weights or a heavy rack to hold them down. It makes a big difference. Which of these problems have you run into before? Understanding these fixes builds your confidence in the kitchen. You save time and get better snacks.
Your Quick Questions, Answered
Can I use any type of apple for air fryer apple crisps?
You can use many kinds, but firm apples work best. Fuji, Honeycrisp, and Jazz apples hold their shape and get crispy. Softer apples like Red Delicious can get mushy. For the best results, pick a crisp apple that stays firm when cooked. This gives you that satisfying crunch. If you want to explore more healthy snack tips, check out our other ideas.
How do you keep apple slices from burning in the air fryer?
The trick is to watch them closely. Air fryers are powerful and can burn slices fast. Cook at 375 degrees and check every two minutes after the first three. Flip or shake the basket to cook evenly. If they start browning too fast, lower the temperature to 350. Also, arrange them in a single layer. Overlapping causes uneven cooking and burns. Practice makes perfect, so do not worry.
Do you need to peel apples for air fryer apple chips?
You do not need to peel them. The peel adds fiber and flavor. It also helps the chips hold their shape. Some people prefer peeled chips for a softer texture. It is your choice. I leave the peel on for extra crunch and nutrients. Either way, slice them thin. If you want more sweet treat ideas, we have plenty to share.
How do you make crispy apple chips in the air fryer with cinnamon?
First, slice your apple very thin, about 1/8 inch. Place slices in a bowl and sprinkle with one teaspoon of cinnamon. Toss with your hands to coat each slice evenly. Place them in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 375 degrees for three minutes, then flip. Cook for five to six more minutes. Watch closely near the end. Let them cool on a rack. They get crunchier as they cool.
What is the best temperature for air fryer apple chips?
The best temperature is 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius. This heat cooks the apple slices fast and makes them crisp. Lower temperatures can make them chewy instead of crunchy. Higher temperatures risk burning. Stick with 375 and check often. If your air fryer runs hot, try 350 degrees. Every machine is a little different. Adjust based on what you see.
How do you store homemade air fryer apple crisps to keep them crunchy?
First, let the chips cool completely. Warm chips hold moisture and get soft. Then place them in a glass mason jar with a tight lid. Keep the jar in a cool, dry pantry. Do not put them in the fridge. The cold air adds moisture. They will stay crunchy for up to three days. If they soften, reheat them in the air fryer for two minutes. For more cooking tips and recipes, visit our site. Quick Air Fryer Apple Crisps in Minutes
Description
Crispy, healthy apple chips made in minutes with just 2 ingredients.
Ingredients
Instructions
- Using a mandoline slicer, or sharp knife, slice the apple into thin 1/8-inch slices (0.3cm). To do so, hold the top of the apple with one hand and slice from the bottom part.
- Pit the center of each slice using a small round shape – I used a piping bag nozzle – see the picture above for a visual guide.
- Place the slices in a bowl, sprinkle cinnamon evenly over the slices and use your hand to toss and rub cinnamon all over the slices.
- Place the apple slices in the air fryer basket, in a single layer – don’t overlap or they won’t crisp.
- Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes, open the basket, flip or shake the basket and return for 5-6 minutes. You must check often because they go from crispy golden brown to burnt very fast. Also, as they dry, they get lighter, fly into the air fryer, and can stick to the top part of the air fryer. If they move too much, place a heavy weight on them, like pie weights, to stabilize them in the basket.
- Remove from the air fryer and cool on a rack. If too soft, return a few minutes in the air fryer.
- Serve plain or dip into peanut butter for a healthy snack.
- Store in a glass mason jar for up to 3 days in the pantry.
